Legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle is putting together a Skynyrd tribute album to remember the 45th anniversary of the plane crash that killed three band members -- October 20th, 1977.
Pyle said 17 tracks have already been recorded. Among the stars who participated are Sammy Hagar performing “Simple Man,” Gov't Mule and former Allman Brothers Band singer-guitarist Warren Haynes doing “Saturday Night Special,” Ronnie Dunn performed “Sweet Home Alabama,” and Billy Ray Cyrus did “Call Me the Breeze.”
Pyle also secured Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington to play the slide solo on “Free Bird." That’s a big deal since Pyle has been estranged from his former band.
No word on when the album will be released. We’ll keep you posted.
