Richie Sambora said he's "proud" of the Bon Jovi song “It’s My Life” and how it became a rallying cry for Ukrainians following last year's Russian invasion.
Sambora told People, “Those songs were about the way we grew up, and it just transpired to be songs that inspired people to be themselves and to take strength...”
He added, “What I found in Ukraine is that these people have heart. They’re defending their families, their sovereignty as a country, their elders, their mothers and fathers, and the children that are the future. And that’s a lot of heart.”
In 2022, a video surfaced showing people in Odessa (Ukraine) filling sandbags while singing along to “It’s My Life,” which was first released in 2000.
