George Thorogood is being treated for what is being called a “very serious medical condition,” and that has caused the cancellation of 18 Canadian and U.S. tour dates from April 27th through May 21st.
Thorogood’s management released a statement saying, “George has been diagnosed with a very serious medical condition that will require immediate surgery and quite a few weeks of recuperation and healing.”
The statement also read, “You, our fans, mean the world to us, and we know this news is not what you wanted to hear, but rest assured George Thorogood and the Destroyers will be back. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.”
Thorogood is 73 years old and lost his wife of 34 years, Marla, in 2019 to cancer.
George commented on why he maintains a certain style with his music. He said, "Why waste people's time and their money. You know, it's not fair. And I try and keep within the circle of George. Not to go outside of that. You know, this is what I do, this is what I am. We stay there because, you know, like I see in the big leagues, what got you here is gonna keep you here. So, we kind of have our groove, so now it's up to me to hold the title of the most obnoxious man in show business, which I wear the crown proudly."
