Queen's breakthrough hit didn't really rock much

Queen broke through with “Killer Queen” in 1975 from the album ‘Sheer heart Attack.’ Brian May made the comment that even though the song didn’t rock that hard, it was well put together.

“I remember having my doubts and thinking, ‘Well, it’s not very rock n’ roll, is this a good flagship?’ But it was such a nice, such a beautifully made piece, I think we were all very proud of it.”

Freddie Mercury wrote the song which peaked at #12 on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ in the U.S. It was featured on the band’s third album ‘Sheer Heart Attack,’ which was released in 1974.They’d already had a top 10 hit in Great Britain.

“Killer Queen” was the first song to break through in both countries. Brian May said he had doubts about the song, but it was the first of a string of all-time rock ‘n roll classics that made Queen one of the all-time greatest rock ‘n roll bands in history.
