Aerosmith marks big milestone

Last Thursday, April 20th, marked the 30th anniversary of the release of Aerosmith's 11th studio album, ‘Get a Grip.’

The album featured the hits "Livin' on the Edge," "Cryin'" and "Crazy," it was their first album to ever top the Billboard 200.

Steven Tyler commented on the songwriting for the album. He said, "It's such an all-encompassing, gut wrenching, earth shaking, shattering process, and that's not to say that all the songs are ball busters. Some of the ones that become the hits, quote unquote, come out real easy. 'Livin' on the Edge' was a good example of that. Every album is a major niche in the barrel of my life. I mean it always takes its toll. This last album defines insanity and that's why we titled it Get a Grip. Each one has its own unmistakable earmark of where we're at at that particular time and that's a good thing. It's like looking at picture albums, you know."

Get a Grip is Aerosmith's most successful album. It has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, with more than seven million in the U.S. alone. The album also earned the group Grammy Awards for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal for "Livin' on the Edge" in 1994 for 1993; and "Crazy" in 1995 for 1994.

The album is also responsible for helping to launch the career of then-16-year-old actress Alicia Silverstone, who appeared in the videos for "Cryin'," "Amazing" and "Crazy."
