Patti LaBelle wants her fans to know that the teleprompter was to blame for her difficulties making it through the Tina Turner tribute she delivered at last Sunday night's ‘BET Awards.’
Patti struggled with the words while she sang out "The Best" during the show. She hummed parts of the song and flubbed a couple of lyrics. At one point, she even worked her issue into the tune, singing "I can't see the words and I don't know. I'm trying, y'all."
A BET spokesperson issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, and said "Having the incomparable Ms. Patti LaBelle on our stage honoring one of her contemporaries was an equal privilege. Due to the crowd's enthusiasm, the teleprompter was obstructed, obscuring Ms. LaBelle's view of the lyrics."
Patti was on Good Morning America on Monday, and said, "I was so blessed to be asked to honor Tina Turner because that's my friend from back in the day. Such a wonderful woman who's done everything and so many people admire her. When I did it last night, I was proud, honey. I felt really great,"
