Billy Joel's 1989 hit "We Didn't Start the Fire" has been updated for the 21st century. The song reflected many of the historical events that occurred between Billy’s birth in 1949 through 1989. The new version by Fall Out Boy spotlights events that have happened since then.
The band says, “So much has happened in the span of the last 34 years — we felt like a little system update might be fun. Hope you like our take on it.”
The video starts off with the animated series Captain Planet, followed by references to both Michael Jordan's uniform numbers (23 and 45), Kurt Cobain, Harry Potter, Donald Trump's two impeachments, Michael Jackson’s death, Brexit, George Floyd, Woodstock '99, and the Sandy Hook shooting.
The lyric video is up on YouTube. The band is also selling limited-edition seven-inch single through its webstore. Fall Out Boy is also part of our iHeartRadio Music Festival September 22nd and 23rd in Las Vegas.
