Ringo Starr says the upcoming Beatles song -- a John Lennon demo they first worked on in the mid-'90s was not only completed using new Artificial Intelligence software, but also features new overdubs.
Ringo comments, “It’s not down to AI. It’s not like we’re pretending anything. That is actually John’s voice, Paul’s voice and bass playing, George on rhythm guitar and me on drums. And the two things that are new are Paul’s bass and me on drums. I really worked at it just months ago here [in Los Angeles]. And it works. It’s a beautiful song. You know, for all the madness going on around it, it’s still a beautiful track. And our last track.”
When Ringo was asked why they decided to give it another try, he said, “I don’t know. Paul must’ve had a slow day. He says, ‘You know that track we did? Do you want to work on that?' [So he sent me the files and] I drummed on it and I sang on it... It is moving, because the four of us are there, and there won’t be ever again.”
The song also includes a string section that McCartney and producer Giles Martin recently recorded in L.A.
Like McCartney, Ringo still didn't pass on the song’s the title or the release date. However, it's believed to be Lennon's 1978 song "Now and Then," which Paul, George and Ringo once attempted to complete as the third "new" track for the Anthology collection in 1995 and 1996 following "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love."
