Readers of ‘Total Guitar’ magazine chose Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven” as the “Greatest Acoustic Guitar Song of All Time.”
Pink Floyd’s "Wish You Were Here" came in at #2, the Eagles' "Hotel California" at #3, Eric Clapton’s "Tears in Heaven" at #4, and The Beatles’ "Blackbird" rounded out the top 5.
John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin talked about how he and Jimmy Page came up with the intro to “Stairway to Heaven.” He said, “He started playing that on the guitar. We were just sitting around the fireside and I picked up a bass recorder and just ran the line down. And then having kind of set the atmosphere there, I then wrote a multi-track recorder arrangement for that intro.”
