The discussion has again turned to how may original members have to be left in a band for them to still use the name that made them famous. Chrissie Hynde is questioning why her band is still called The Pretenders.
Hynde is the only original member left of the group. She told Record Collector, "Since [original bassist] Pete [Farndon] and [guitarist] Jimmy [James Honeyman-Scott] died and because I’ve had to replace people, it’s now kind of like a Pretenders tribute band, named The Pretenders.”
The revolving door of musicians who have played with Chrissie now numbers 11 on recordings, along with another five who’s played with her on the road. The latest version of The Pretenders are featured on their 12th album, Relentless.
