Elton John has revealed that he has recorded a new album with his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last Friday. Elton flew to Brooklyn, New York to present the honor to his friend and collaborator, whom he has worked with for 56 years.
Elton John, while inducting Bernie Taupin into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, mentioned recording a new album with lyrics by Taupin. He said, "We've just finished an album in Los Angeles and it's absolutely wonderful and it's full of youth and it's full of vitality and it's a wonderful place to be after we've been together for 56 years."
He added that the album, his first complete collection of songs with lyrics by Taupin since Wonderful Crazy Night in 2016, will "surprise you."
Elton's last album was The Lockdown Sessions in 2021, which featured collaborations with various artists such as Dua Lipa, Stevie Wonder, Lil Nas X, and Nicki Minaj. The album was recorded remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic and received critical acclaim.
The new album with Taupin is expected to be released in 2024, and will mark the 34th studio album by Elton John. The duo has written some of the most iconic songs in pop history, such as "Your Song," "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," "Candle in the Wind," and "I'm Still Standing."
