The Who are set to release a live album from the band's first "farewell tour" in 1982. ‘Live at Shea Stadium 1982,’ which will be released on March 1st, captures the band's performance at the iconic New York venue on October 12th and 13th, 1982.
The album is a two-CD or three-LP set that features 25 tracks, spanning the band's career from their early hits like "I Can't Explain" and "My Generation" to their later classics like "Baba O'Riley" and "Who Are You." Only one of the tracks, a version of "The Quiet One" from the Face Dances album, has been previously released on a 1997 reissue.
The 1982 tour was supposed to be the band's last, as they announced their breakup at the end of the year. However, the band reunited several times over the years, releasing new albums and touring again. The 1982 tour has already produced two other live albums: Who's Last, which was released in 1984 and mainly recorded in Cleveland, and Live From Toronto, which was released in 2007 and recorded at the final show of the tour on December 17th, 1982.
Live at Shea Stadium 1982 is the latest addition to the band's extensive live catalog, which showcases their legendary status as one of the greatest live acts in rock history. The album also offers a glimpse into a pivotal moment in the band's career, when they were saying goodbye to their fans, but not for long.
